Brussels Sprouts with Bacon

Bacon and Brussels sprouts are the ultimate dream team! This simple, delicious side dish will quickly become a favorite. The crispy, salty bacon takes Brussels sprouts to a whole new level. And the secret to making them irresistible? Cooking the sprouts right in that flavorful bacon fat—so good! These beauties go great with just about any meal.
What You’ll Need
Brussels sprouts – Look for fresh, bright green ones without any yellow leaves. Smaller sprouts are a bit sweeter, and keeping them all about the same size helps them cook evenly.
Bacon – The crispy magic-maker, plus you’ll use the leftover grease for added flavor.
A skillet with a lid – Any kind will do!
Helpful Tips
Brussels sprouts can be a bit tough, so start cooking with the lid on to trap steam—it speeds things up. Keep the heat on the lower side so they don’t brown too fast. No need to boil them first!
Finish cooking with the lid off to crisp them up just the way you like.
Cooking times can vary depending on the size of your sprouts, your stove type (gas or induction), and even your altitude. Stick to the timing here for small-to-average sprouts, but adjust if yours are bigger.
Instructions
Cut the bacon into small pieces and fry in a skillet until crispy. Scoop the bacon onto a plate lined with paper towels, but leave that delicious grease in the pan.
Toss the halved Brussels sprouts into the pan and give them a good stir so they soak up all the bacon goodness.
Cover the pan with a lid, turn the heat down a bit, and let them cook for about 5 minutes.
Add the crispy bacon back in. Keep cooking, this time uncovered, until the sprouts are golden brown and tender.
Season with a pinch of salt and pepper if you like.
Bonus Tip: Want a touch of sweetness? Drizzle some balsamic glaze on top during the last few minutes—yum!
Vegetarian Version with Pecans and Cranberries Looking for a veggie-friendly twist? Butter, pecans, and dried cranberries make a fantastic combo!
Melt plenty of butter in the pan instead of using bacon grease. Add your Brussels sprouts and cook them just like above.
Toss in chopped pecans and dried cranberries toward the end.
A drizzle of balsamic glaze ties it all together for a perfect sweet-and-savory bite.
This tasty version works as a side dish or a snack to nibble on between meals. Enjoy!
Spread the love!
